Sugar Plum, Richie Havens ***** Estels.

Lyrics to the Bill Evans composition "Sugar Plum" (derived from a solo segment Bill played on the Bill Evans - Jim Hall Duet album, "Intermodulation," from the beginning of the second instance of the bridge of the Joe Zawinul composition "Angel Face") were written by John Court, Richie Havens' manager. Court heard the tune (on YouTube search "Bill Evans and Jim Hall play Angel Face" to check out the source uploaded by Maojose12) and urged Richie to record the tune with his lyrics. Evans probably intended "Sugar Plum" to be a sort of warm-up or practice tune, adding 2 main chords and turnarounds and played around the Cycle of Fourths in all 12 keys. Once around the cycle is one chorus. Richie chose to play in one tonality, not going around the cycle. Jazz pianist Warren Bernhardt, close friend of Evans plays keyboards on the track.
