Tony Ozier "Mental Candy" (2006) ***** Estels.
f you haven’t caught a live show from the self-proclaimed DooDoo Funk King, Tony Ozier, you are missing out. With his alter-ego Dookie Green, Tony Ozier, takes audiences on an epic ride through his fictional DookieOn world with his 10-piece Doo Doo Funk Allstars band.
Tony Ozier began playing drums in church and school at a young age. This gave him a foundation in music so that at age 20, when he decided to pursue a music career, he was able to teach himself to play the piano, his primary instrument.
He honed his skills as a member of the Urbanights, a live hip hop band that played regularly throughout the Midwest and toured Japan in 1999. This experience turned him on to live hip hop and soul performance and he has since taught himself to play bass guitar and tours nationally with the group the LifeSavas as their bass player.
Tony Ozier released his first solo album, Mental Candy, in 2006. The album received rave reviews and led to a limited tour in the UK, as well as worldwide airplay on radio. He released an acclaimed follow up album, Aural Penetration, and is currently working on a live band album with the DooDoo Funk Allstars and an instrumental album.
Throughout his career, Tony Ozier has performed with many world famous entertainers, opening up for Dwele, Maceo Parker, PJ Morton and Freddie Jackson. As a producer, Tony Ozier has created tracks for Kool Keith, Too Short and Yolanda Johnson. He is a recording engineer and live sound technician that has worked sound for Master P, engineered for Platinum Pied Pipers and holds a degree in Sound Engineering.
Tony Ozier is the front man, producer and engineer for all work coming out of BeatsGalore Records, including artists throughout the country with strong underground followings like Jimi James (LA), Mustafa Akbar (DC). Neco Redd (Detroit) and SUN (Detroit).
